2 1 Fin Setup
This is an increasingly popular fin box configuration on eggs funboards sups and logs.
2 1 fin setup. I m finding my uf8 quite stiff through the tail. It is a pintail and i did have the board made for bigger waves and there haven t been any since i got it. This setup is gaining popularity with riders who use funboards eggs logs and sups. The 2 1 setup is usually described as an elaboration on a single fin because while it retains the smooth feel of a single fin the side bites will add extra drive and hold.
The middlebox is longer with a 2 1 setup. This gives you the choice to attach the middle fin more towards the front or back. As with single fins there is a lot of room for experimentation with a 2 1 because you can still choose from a wide variety of single fin designs sizes and placements. Quads can be great in small surf especially if the rear fins are further up on the surfboard and closer to the rails.
This venerable setup consisting of a single fin coupled with side bites will have your board feeling loose but with the added versatility of increased holding power in bigger surf. The middle box is longer allowing you to set your middle fin forward or back. The 2 x 1 also known as the 2 1 setup consists of a center fin with two smaller fins placed to the side of it and slightly farther forward. This fin configuration can be found on longboards of varying lengths and shapes but is most popular on high performance models.
The four fin set up gets a little bit of both the characteristics of the twin fin and the thruster set up. This helps surfers generate speed even in weak waves and helps to do quick turns a bit like with a twin fin. Using a traditional thruster setup but with a slight difference a 2 1 fin setup has a larger center fin where a thruster setup has three equal sized fins a 2 1 has two smaller rail fins or otherwise known as sidebites and larger central fin. This stiffness turns me off wanting to take it out in the samller stuff.
